Arriving by bus

Take a bus to Chania, to the Main Bus Station. Leave the Bus Station by the entrance on the left, where the buses leave it. The walk to Pension Lena is only a few hundred metres, and will take around 10 minutes, with much of it down hill towards the sea.

If you can't face the walk, take a taxi outside the bus station. Ask the driver to take you to Pension Lena, Ritsou, off Odos Theotokopoulou, in Chania Old Town. If he looks perplexed, tell him it is near the Old Xenia Hotel (it no longer exists, in fact, but they all knew it well). Also, you can give the driver Lena's mobile number, and she can "talk him in" or may even be able to collect you from the bus station: (+30) 69 32829788.
Here is the request for the taxi driver to take you to Lena's, in Greek, so you can print it out to show the taxi driver, or just print this page:

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaAssuming you are walking, you are now on a street called PARTHENIOU KELAIDI - pictured left as you leave the bus station (the signs are high on most street corners, and the English translation is in yellow capitals).

Turn to your right and walk a few metres to the junction with KYDONIAS, a larger and busier road. Cross KYDONIAS and continue into the next part of PARTHENIOU KELAIDI.

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaWalk 100 metres or so to the end of PARTHENIOU KELAIDI, to the junction with one of Chania's main roads, the East-West ANAGNOSTI SKALIDI.

Cross over (careful!) to the other side, and turn left.

50 metres ahead take a right turn into PEIRAIOS (pictured left), with signs to 'NEA CHORA BEACH and OLD HARBOUR'. If you need supplies there is now a big supermarket called Carrefour on your left.

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaWalk on down this fairly narrow and mostly one-way street, PEIRAIOS, right to the bottom, down to the sea.

You will see on your right the great walls of the Old Town of Chania, impressively high. Long ago the sea lapped against them.

The authorities have spent years restoring these walls, which were badly damaged in the bombing of Chania, and by the passage of time. It is interesting to walk on top of the walls, and you will find many small houses, complete with livestock, up there.

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaAt the end of PEIRAIOS turn right and walk, with the sea to your left, into an area called TALO SQUARE. You'll see ahead the remains of one of the great defensive bastions of the city walls, and at that point turn right into THEOTOKOPOULOU (turning is pictured left).

Ahead of you on the left is a large grey Turkish timber building which has MANO's cafe downstairs. At the cafe, turn left (the first left turn in THEOTOKOPOULOU) into RITSOU and Pension Lena is on your left.
