Arriving by car

You will probably come into Chania either from the airport, having hired a car, or from the National Highway.

From the airport the road is pretty obvious into Chania, and you can always follow a taxi! You will come into town along a main road that leads West to East, and in due course becomes the street ANAGNOSTI SKALIDI in the centre of town.

If coming along the National Highway, take the exit for MOURNIES and drive on into Chania itself, keeping straight ahead all the way. After negotiating some pretty narrow streets, and passing the cemetery, ahead you will see a big junction with the AGORA market at its head. Turn left there, and follow the road into the street ANAGNOSTI SKALIDI in the centre of town.

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaYou will pass the top of the street called CHALIDON on your right, that leads down to the Old Harbour (Alpha Bank is near this corner) and you will take the next right after this, the street PEIRAIOS - see the photo left for what the corner looks like, with a big blue PARKING sign on it.

As soon as you turn right into this street you will see a large supermarket, Carrefour - big red sign - on your left, and the street narrows right down with many parked cars and cross junctions. Continue down this street.

Drive to the end of PEIRAIOS, then turn right into the area of TALOS SQUARE, with the sea on your left. You should now be able to find somewhere to park, in the car parks or on the road - but please be very careful not to park where signs warn that the area is 'No Parking PERMANENT RESIDENTS EXCEPTED'. This slightly ambiguous wording, seen on signs throughout Chania yet often difficult to spot, means that ONLY those with Residents' Parking Permits can park there. You will see cars parked everywhere, even on pavements, but, as a visitor, please take care to park in a legal spot as parking tickets are 80 Euros at present (half price if paid in 7 days). The traffic police hand out thousands of tickets each season to wrongly parked tourists.

Walking from the bus station to Pension LenaOnce parked, take the street THEOTOKOPOULOU that leads off TALO SQUARE (the street is pictured left) and walk up it to the big grey Turkish wooden building with Mano's cafe on its corner with RITSOU.

Turn left into Ritsou and Pension Lena is 20 metres down on the left.
